Shahid Kapoor is back! His last release Haider not only won him critical acclaim but also a respectable box office collection. His performance as the desi Hamlet in Vishal Bhardwaj’s movie has now won hearts in Rome too. The film bagged the Peoples Choice award in the Mondo Genere (World genre) category at the Rome Film Festival over the weekend.
Shahid, who was in Leeds shooting for Vikas Bahls Shandaar with Alia Bhatt, daddy Pankaj Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor, took two days off work to attend the festival and receive the award along with the director of the film and Amrita Pandey from Disney UTV. The trio flashed their trophy on the red carpet for the shutterbugs.
Shahid tweeted, “Peoples choice in the main category at the Rome Film Festival ... A first for an Indian film. Proud and humbled.”
Shraddha Kapoor, who played his lover Arshiya in the film, couldnt attend the do following work and family commitments but she didnt take too long to express her feelings on the occasion. We WON! #Haider the 1st Indian film to win the main category of peoples choice award at Rome film festival! So humbled, grateful & proud! she tweeted on the micro blogging site.
Haider released in India on October 2 alongside Hrithik Roshan-Katrina Kaifs Bang Bang. With a strong word of mouth, the film has lasted more than four weeks at the box office and has been declared a hit given its small budget and fat returns.
